In the recent ICC Men’s Test bowling rankings update, Ravichandran Ashwin, the seasoned off-spinner from India, has overtaken his teammate and vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah to claim the top spot.
After his remarkable performance in the 5-match Test series against England, Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Bumrah to claim the top spot. India’s dominant 4-1 victory, sealed with an innings and 62-run win at Dharamshala, showcased Ashwin’s prowess.
Throughout the series, Ashwin shattered multiple records. His milestone of 500 Test wickets came during India’s massive 434-run victory at the Niranjan Shah stadium in Rajkot. Additionally, the 5th Test marked Ashwin’s 100th appearance in Test cricket, making him the 14th Indian player to achieve this feat. His standout performance in that match, where he took 9 wickets overall, further solidified his status as a key player for the Indian team.
Ashwin’s journey to the top ICC Test bowler ranking began in November 2015, and his consistency, especially in Indian conditions, has been remarkable. His achievement holds special significance, considering he had to briefly leave the series to attend to his mother in Chennai, who was hospitalized. Despite the setback, Ashwin returned and played a pivotal role in ensuring India’s success in the series.
Meanwhile, Bumrah slipped to second place due to missing one of the matches in the Test series, leaving him tied with Australia’s Josh Hazlewood.
In the latest all-rounder rankings, Ravindra Jadeja edges out his fellow Indian player Ashwin to claim the top spot, while Ashwin maintains his strong hold on the second position. Notably, Australian captain Pat Cummins has surged up two places to secure the eighth spot following his impressive performance in the recent Test series against New Zealand.
Turning to the team rankings, India continues to dominate across all formats, solidifying their position at the pinnacle after a successful home series which propelled them to the number one spot in Test cricket.
