Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said that Indian captain Rohit Sharma is possibly the greatest six-hitter ever produced by India.
Rohit Sharma stands tall as one of cricket’s premier hitters, showcasing his prowess across all formats of the game. The Indian captain fearlessly takes on bowlers with impeccably timed strokes, undeterred by the playing conditions.
Having already shattered numerous records for hitting sixes, Rohit Sharma currently reigns supreme atop the list of players with the most international sixes, tallying an impressive 597. With the 600 sixes milestone within reach, the opening batsman eagerly anticipates the opportunity to achieve this feat during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA, as India is set to return to international action in June.
In the career sixes chart, the legendary Chris Gayle of the West Indies occupies the second position, trailing behind Rohit Sharma. Following suit are Shahid Afridi, Brendon McCullum, and Martin Guptill, with 553, 476, 398, and 383 sixes respectively, showcasing their remarkable hitting prowess.
As the Indian Cricket Team gears up for upcoming challenges, Rohit Sharma’s pursuit of cricketing milestones continues to captivate fans and cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
During the Test series against England, Indian batters smashed quite many sixes. When questioned about this on Jio Cinema after the Dharamsala Test match, head coach Rahul Dravid chuckled and shared his thoughts on the matter. He said, “It is incredible to watch, and it is one facet of the game that is at a different level. We have someone (Rohit Sharma) who is the greatest six-hitter India has ever produced. It is phenomenal-the six-hitting power, the skill, and the ability. Every time they hit the ball, it seems to go out. It’s amazing.”
During the series against England, Rohit notched up 400 runs, maintaining an average of 44, showcasing his prowess with two centuries and a fifty. As India faced setbacks in Hyderabad with key players sidelined, Rohit’s on-field captaincy and off-field leadership came to the forefront. Dravid acknowledged Rohit for fostering a calm and relaxed atmosphere in the dressing room amid the challenges.
“It’s a pleasure to watch Rohit bat, from middle order to opener, it has been a great journey – with 3 down in Rajkot, scoring that hundred. Credit goes to Rohit Sharma to keep the dressing room calm and cool and relaxed after the loss of first test match,” Dravid added.
Rohit is set to make his next appearance on the cricket field during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, where he’ll be representing the Mumbai Indians (MI) under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.
