Sunil Narine, the versatile all-round player for KKR, delivered a stunning performance in the intense clash against RR in IPL 2024, notching up his maiden century in the IPL tournament.
In a thrilling showdown at Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders’ seasoned bowling all-rounder, Sunil Narine, stole the spotlight with an electrifying performance against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 match. Narine etched his name in history by notching up his debut IPL century, treating fans to a spectacular exhibition of batting prowess.
Once again, the KKR team management showed faith in Narine’s batting abilities by promoting him up the order, a decision that paid off handsomely. Following a modest start to the season with a paltry 2-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Narine bounced back emphatically with scores of 47, 85, and 27 in the subsequent matches.
Despite a faltering start in the previous game against Lucknow Super Giants, where he managed only six runs, Narine staged a remarkable comeback against the Royals, scripting his maiden T20 century in style. Although he didn’t explode out of the gate as usual, Narine gradually found his rhythm, smashing Kuldeep Sen for a six and a four in the sixth over, marking the turning point in his innings.
From thereon, there was no stopping Narine as he unleashed a barrage of boundaries with sheer finesse. Notching up his fifty with a six in the tenth over, he reached the coveted century milestone in the 16th over, dismantling Yuzvendra Chahal with a flurry of boundaries – two sixes and as many fours – to complete a breathtaking century off just 49 deliveries.
Narine’s heroic innings laid the foundation for KKR’s imposing total of 223 runs in 20 overs. Alongside Narine’s century, Angkrish Raghuvanshi chipped in with a brisk 30, while Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 20*, contributing to the formidable total.
The Rajasthan Royals’ bowling unit found the going tough. Despite efforts from Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Sen, who managed to pick up two wickets each, and contributions from Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult, who claimed one wicket apiece.
