Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary had announced his retirement from cricket through his social media account on August 3.
Reports suggest that former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary is planning to reverse his decision of retirement and make a comeback to first-class cricket, specifically for Bengal. Tiwary, who initially announced his retirement via social media on August 3, is reportedly reconsidering his choice after a meeting with Snehasish Ganguly, the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). An official announcement regarding this change of plans is anticipated during a press conference scheduled for Tuesday, August 8.
Tiwary’s earlier decision to retire left a notable void in Bengal’s middle-order lineup. Notably, under his captaincy, the Bengal team had reached the Ranji Trophy final last year. His potential return is poised to provide considerable relief to the team. It’s worth noting, however, that Bengal had faced defeat against Saurashtra in the final match held at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
Performance of Manoj Tiwary in domestic cricket
Having made his first-class debut back in December 2004, Manoj Tiwary has achieved a remarkable record. Over 141 games, he’s accumulated 9908 runs with 29 centuries and 45 half-centuries, maintaining an impressive average of 48.56. In fact, he’s just a mere 92 runs away from the coveted 10000-run milestone. A standout moment was his astounding performance in the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy, where he stunned everyone with an impressive tally of 796 runs, averaging a striking 99.50. This exceptional performance not only broke Bengal’s records but also earned him a spot in India’s squad for the Bangladesh tour.
