Mayank Yadav, the fast bowler for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), exited the field with an injury after completing an over against Gujarat Titans (GT) and was unable to resume play.
Every year, the Indian Premier League (IPL) unveils fresh talents, and this time, all eyes are on Mayank Yadav, a young Indian fast bowler who is causing quite a stir with his exceptional speed.
Yadav made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings, and what a debut it was! Rarely have we seen such a spell from a newcomer on such a grand stage. His bowling was a perfect blend of speed, aggression, and precision. Clocking a delivery at 155.8 km/h (96 mph), he left everyone awestruck and rightfully earned the man-of-the-match award.
But Yadav wasn’t done yet. In the next match, he surpassed his own performance, sending down a thunderous delivery at 156.7 km/h (96 mph) – the fastest of the season so far. And to add to his glory, he clinched his second consecutive man-of-the-match award against Royal Challengers Bangalore, a feat never achieved before by an IPL debutant. Across these two matches, he claimed a total of six wickets for 41 runs, solidifying his position as a rising star in the cricketing world.
Enormous excitement surrounded his appearance on the field against the Gujarat Titans at Ekana Stadium, where he aimed to assist the Lucknow Super Giants in defending a total of 164. However, his performance fell short of expectations. Despite bowling one over at a slower pace, he couldn’t quite replicate the pinpoint accuracy that had defined his IPL journey so far. Shortly thereafter, he exited the field and didn’t make a comeback.
“Mayank felt soreness in lower abdominal area and as a precaution we are managing his work load over next week. We hope to see him soon in the field,” LSG CEO Colonel Vinod Bisht confirmed in a statement on April 9.
Mayank will be unavailable for Lucknow Super Giants’ upcoming games against Delhi Capitals at home on April 12 and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 14. Following those matches, Lucknow will welcome Chennai Super Kings to their home ground on April 19.
