During a PSL 2024 match between Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators, the former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir found himself in a heated verbal exchange with a fan.
Mohammad Amir, the retired Pakistani pacer, may have bid adieu to international cricket, but he continues to actively participate in various domestic T20 leagues worldwide. Currently representing Quetta Gladiators in the 2024 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), his team secured a spot in the playoffs following a recent triumph over Lahore Qalandars.
Amir played a pivotal role in his team’s six-wicket victory against Lahore Qalandars in their last league match. His contribution included the crucial dismissal of Lahore’s captain, Shaheen Afridi, who had scored 55 runs off 34 balls.
Post the match, as the players headed back to the pavilion, a segment of the Pakistani crowd expressed their support for Amir. However, amidst the cheers, an unfortunate incident occurred when someone from the crowd used the term “fixer,” referencing Amir’s involvement in the match-fixing scandal back in 2010. This incident visibly displeased the former Pakistani cricketer. Despite Amir’s efforts to reshape his image in international cricket since the scandal, it appears that the shadow of the past still lingers.
In a widely circulated video, Amir can be seen exiting the field alongside his teammates, walking past the sightscreen, when a confrontation with a fan unfolds. At first, Amir appears to brush off the taunting remarks, but later he returns, responding with some choice words for the individual who was verbally abusing him.
He strolled away after a while, but it was evident that the pacer was deeply affected by the accusations. Alongside Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt also faced bans, putting an abrupt end to their careers in the aftermath of that infamous fixing scandal – a chapter in cricket history that remains one of the most significant.
In a thrilling encounter, the Gladiators emerged victorious by successfully chasing down a target of 167 in 20 overs. Saud Shakeel played a stellar role with an unbeaten (88), supported by Jason Roy’s (18) and skipper Rilee Rossoue’s (13). The team required 14 runs to win in the final over, and the match concluded dramatically as Mohammad Wasim smashed a six on the last ball to secure the win.
