Kavya Maran, the owner of Sunrisers Eastern Cape, couldn’t believe the achievement as Sunrisers Eastern Cape secured their second consecutive SA20 trophy in back-to-back seasons of the competition.
Kavya Maran, the owner of Sunrisers Eastern Cape, expressed her joy as the team successfully defended their title in the second edition of the SA20 league. The celebration of Kavya Maran went viral on social media after Sunrisers Eastern Cape emerged victorious against the Durban Super Giants in the championship match.
Led by Aiden Markram, the team secured an impressive 89-run win over the Durban Supergiants at The Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday, February 10. This triumph signifies their back-to-back victories in the SA20, following their inaugural final win against the Pretoria Capitals in 2023.
Aiden Markram’s team undoubtedly dominated the tournament, securing the top spot in the league stage and clinching a convincing victory in the final against Keshav Maharaj’s Durban. They showcased their prowess by defeating Durban Super Giants in Qualifier 1.
The batting performance was exceptional, with four of their top five players scoring between 40 and 60, all at strike rates exceeding 160. The Sunrisers posted an imposing total of 204 in Cape Town. However, Durban’s response fell short as they struggled from the outset, losing Quinton de Kock early with just 3 runs and Heinrich Klaasen for a duck, much to the disappointment of their fans.
The turning point came when Marco Jansen delivered a stellar performance, claiming a remarkable five-wicket haul. Batsman Tom Abell played a crucial role, earning the Man of the Match award for his impressive knock of 55 runs in 34 balls, featuring 8 fours and 2 sixes. This outstanding performance came after SEC lost opener Dawid Malan in the second over of the final.
Kavya Maran couldn’t hide her joy at the SA20 2024 final. She was seen celebrating her team’s back-to-back championship triumph with great enthusiasm. A video that quickly went viral captured Maran commending the team’s exceptional display with both the bat and ball throughout the season.
“It’s a second cup. Back-to-back, two in a row. So glad, so happy. Best performance by the team with the bat and the ball. They have been dominating this whole season, and to finally get this through-I mean, it’s unbelievable to be winning it (title) back-to-back. So happy for the guys; everyone put up a great show. Very strong team that we played today, but happy to have the win at the end of the day,” Maran said.
