Prithvi Shaw, the Indian batsman, is set to remain sidelined due to a knee injury he suffered while representing Northamptonshire in a one-day championship match against Durham in the Royal One-day Cup.
The young cricketer Prithvi Shaw is facing a setback as he’ll be out of action for a minimum of three months. This means he won’t be able to participate in most of India’s 2023-24 domestic season. After sustaining the injury, Shaw sought consultation with a surgeon in London and then underwent further assessment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. According to an official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), the management is taking a cautious approach, hoping to have him back in shape for the Ranji Trophy in January. Currently, it seems likely that Shaw won’t be able to take part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scheduled to kick off on October 16th.
As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, subsequent scans revealed the injury was a lot worse than initially expected. “After initially consulting a surgeon in London, Shaw returned to the NCA in Bengaluru for another assessment. At the moment, the medical team is examining all possible options regarding Shaw’s treatment and surgery is likely to be the last resort,” it added.
Shaw, aged 23, had his time with Northamptonshire abruptly interrupted by a knee injury. However, before this setback, he showcased his incredible talent in just four appearances. During this brief spell, he impressively averaged 143, amassing a total of 429 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 152. One remarkable highlight was his record-breaking innings of 244 off 153 balls against Somerset, a performance that now ranks as the sixth-highest individual score in List A history.
Shaw featured in India’s squad during the three T20Is against New Zealand back in February of this year. However, his form took a downturn while representing Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 season, managing only 106 runs across eight matches. As a result, he was excluded from the Indian squad not only for the T20Is in Ireland but also for the upcoming Asian Games.
