At the Tiger Pataudi Memorial Lecture in Kolkata, Brian Lara lauded Virat Kohli, underlining his persistent effort and everlasting commitment to the game of cricket.
Brian Lara, a cricketing maestro, showered praise on Virat Kohli, commending him as a role model for his outstanding performances in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Lara even mentioned that if his own children were to choose a sport, he would encourage them to follow Kohli’s exemplary qualities for inspiration.
Lara, at 54, was deeply impressed by the 35-year-old’s batting brilliance. The cricket legend emphasized the importance of Kohli’s excellence and its impact on team dynamics. He highlighted the essence of personal achievements in a team sport, expressing his wish to instill Kohli’s unwavering commitment and dedication in his son. Lara aims to nurture the qualities necessary for excelling as a top-tier sportsman in his offspring, drawing from the right-handed batter’s remarkable traits.
“I have a son and I can tell you that if my son has to play any sport, I will be using Kohli’s commitment and dedication to not just add to his strength, but whatever it takes to become a Number one sportsman. First of all, for Virat Kohli, I know a lot of people will say or have already said that Kohli’s performance does not matter as India did not win the World Cup,” Lara said as quoted by Times of India.
“Team sport is about winning and you, as an individual player, have to have that as your No.1 target. But a subsidiary of team success is individual success, and this is what Kohli has given India match after match throughout the World Cup,” Lara further added.
Virat’s stunning show in the 2023 World Cup was genuinely astounding, with him putting up an astonishing 765 runs in 11 matches at a terrific average of 95.62. His achievements, such as becoming the first player to smash 50 ODI centuries, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition, and securing the highest number of fifty-plus scores, clearly demonstrated his domination. Lara complimented the importance of the Delhi batsman on cricket’s preparation and discipline, acknowledging his revolutionary influence.
