Iceland Cricket, known for its witty social media banter, mocked England fast bowler Ollie Robinson following his remarks on the team’s series defeat to India.
In their most recent test tour, Ben Stokes’ team suffered a 4-1 defeat to India, despite a promising start with a victory in the first match in Hyderabad. However, their momentum couldn’t be sustained as they faltered in the following four matches, leading to the loss of the series.
Under the leadership of Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, England faced their first test series loss. Although England’s bowlers managed to take 20 wickets against India in the initial two matches, they struggled to contain India’s batsmen in the subsequent three games.
Looking back on the series loss, Ollie Robinson admitted that there were chances they didn’t capitalize on. Yet, he feels the 4-1 defeat doesn’t truly reflect their efforts. He stressed the high standard of cricket his team maintained throughout and their ambition to reach the top of the world rankings.
“Obviously a catch I dropped in the fourth Test would have helped us but, no, we feel like 4-1 was undeserved really. We played some really good cricket and maybe on another tour it could have been 3-2 to us, who knows?” Robinson told Sky Sports News.
Ollie Robinson’s remarks about the series’ loss to India were met with playful banter from Iceland Cricket on social media platform X. This was not the first time when Iceland Cricket gave a witty reply on their social handle.
“Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right…,” Iceland Cricket tweeted.
During the fourth match of the five-match series in Ranchi, Robinson took part in just a single Test. In a crucial moment in the first innings, the right-arm pacer missed an opportunity when he dropped Dhruv Jurel’s catch at 59 runs. Jurel seized upon this chance and went on to make a noteworthy contribution of 90 runs.
