In the thrilling showdown of IPL 2023 featuring Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), fans were treated to an intense confrontation between two cricket legends, Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq.
The tension that unfolded on the field didn’t stay confined to the game itself; it spilled over into post-match handshakes and even found an unusual outlet through social media. Fans were left in suspense, eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this tale of on-field rivalry.
After the heated on-field encounter, Naveen-ul-Haq took an unexpected approach to express his feelings. Instead of opting for the usual methods, he decided to share cryptic photos of mangoes on his Instagram stories every time Kohli faced a setback in the following matches.
The passionate and vocal fan base of the Indian cricketing community didn’t take kindly to Naveen’s mango-themed jests. The stadiums echoed with Kohli-Kohli chants whenever Naveen took the field, creating a charged atmosphere filled with tension. It seemed the fans had picked their sides, and Naveen became the target of relentless taunts.
However, in a surprising twist during the India vs Afghanistan game in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held in Delhi, the narrative took an unexpected turn. Naveen-ul-Haq approached Virat Kohli, and to everyone’s surprise, they shared a heartfelt embrace, putting an end to the simmering feud. The post-game scenes revealed a camaraderie that few had anticipated.

The Indian crowd, quick to respond to the changing dynamics, made a remarkable about-face. From taunting Naveen, they now found themselves supporting the Afghan cricketer. The display of sportsmanship and mutual respect during the India vs Afghanistan match had successfully won the hearts of fans, reshaping their loyalties in the process.
Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) recently posted a video featuring Naveen-ul-Haq addressing the mango controversy. In the video, he explained the innocent background of his Instagram stories, emphasizing that the seemingly provocative mango posts were simply a reflection of his personal love for the fruit. Naveen made it clear that there was no ill intent towards Kohli or anyone else, and the whole situation was just a matter of personal taste rather than animosity.
Naveen said, “I had told Dhaval bhai (LSG team logistics) that I wanted to eat mangoes. And he got mangoes that night itself. When we went to Goa, he brought mangoes. So I was sitting in front of the screen and eating mangoes. There was no picture or anything (of Kohli), it was a Mumbai Indians player on the screen. So I wrote ‘sweet mangoes’ and everyone took it in a different way. So even I didn’t say anything, I just left it. I thought it was mango season, so people’s shops should also do well.”
The Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq dispute underlines how significant perception is in the domain of sports. This incident teaches us a key lesson about how people interpret things in the world of sports.
