Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary didn’t hold back in his criticism of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star batsman Glenn Maxwell, expressing his disappointment in Maxwell’s consistent failure to deliver for his team when it mattered most.
In this season of IPL 2024, the Australian all-rounder representing RCB hasn’t managed to leave a significant impact after playing four matches. Maxwell’s performance has been disappointing, with only 31 runs scored across these games, his individual scores being 0, 3, 28, and 0.
It’s worth noting that Maxwell was bought for a hefty sum of 14.25 crore in the IPL 2021 auction by RCB, and surprisingly, his salary remains the same in this edition as well. Despite showcasing an impressive performance during the ICC ODI World Cup in India last November, Maxwell seems to be struggling with his form in the current IPL season.
During an interview with Cricbuzz, former KKR player Manoj Tiwary couldn’t help but jest about Maxwell’s hefty salary in IPL 2024 juxtaposed with his lackluster batting performance.
“RCB retained Glenn Maxwell. He is receiving his salary from time to time, but the performances aren’t coming at that speed. Glenn Maxwell has become Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram in the IPL”, Manoj Tiwary said.
Tiwary also criticized Glenn Maxwell for his lack of consistency in the IPL. He pointed out how the Australian batsman had difficulties maintaining a steady performance during his time with Punjab Kings.
“He has all the abilities, but where are the performances? If you look at his track record, even when he was with Punjab, everyone expected him to deliver match-winning performances, which didn’t happen. There needs to be consistency”, Tiwary further added.
In the 2024 IPL season, Maxwell, known for his explosive batting, has struggled to make an impact with just 31 runs in four matches. He failed to score in two innings and managed only three runs in another. His highest score came against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he made 28 runs off 19 balls.
Maxwell’s poor form with the bat has directly affected RCB’s performance this season. Under Faf du Plessis’ leadership, the team finds itself in a disappointing ninth place in the points table, having won just one out of four matches played so far.
