Suryakumar Yadav played a phenomenal innings, scoring a brilliant century for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), propelling his team to victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to field first, despite Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strong record when batting first. Hardik Pandya and the team took a gamble, and it paid off as their bowlers performed exceptionally well, taking wickets consistently.
Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their first wicket when Abhishek Sharma departed at 56 runs, followed by a quick succession of wickets, leaving them at 124/7 in 15.5 overs. However, Pat Cummins turned the tide with a brilliant cameo, scoring 35 runs off 17 balls, helping his team reach a respectable total of 173/8. Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla claimed three wickets each, while Anshul Kamboj and Jasprit Bumrah secured one wicket each.
Facing the target, Mumbai Indians got off to a shaky start, losing three wickets within the powerplay, including Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Naman Dhir.
With the team in a tough spot, Suryakumar Yadav, the No.1 T20 batsman, took charge and displayed an outstanding batting performance. Playing his natural attacking game, Yadav dominated the bowlers, forming a crucial partnership of 143* runs with Tilak Varma in just 79 balls, guiding Mumbai Indians to a remarkable 7-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare.
He joined Rohit Sharma as the second player from the Mumbai Indians to notch up two IPL centuries. At the same time, he matched KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the number of T20 centuries scored by an Indian player.
During his innings, Suryakumar Yadav achieved his 6th T20 century and sealed the win with a six. He scored 102 runs off 51 balls, comprising 12 fours and 6 sixes. Fans celebrated wildly on social media, expressing joy and admiration for Yadav’s stellar performance.
