On social media, Henry Olonga, the former teammate of legendary all-rounder Heath Streak, shared his sorrow regarding the passing away of the cricket legend due to cancer. Surprisingly, the situation took a sudden twist, revealing that the cricket legend is, in fact, alive and well.
Olonga’s first revelation rippled around the cricket world, sending waves of shock and alarm. Fans, players, and experts alike started expressing their condolences and reminiscing about major occurrences during Streak’s incredible career. The emotional response was genuine, and the void appeared substantial. However, a startling turn of events took place when Olonga himself denied the story he had previously conveyed, using his official Twitter account to indicate that Streak is definitely alive and in good health.
Both of them played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s classic era, which saw them advance to the ODI World Cup’s Super Six rounds in 1999 and 2003. The squad had a lot of promise and was given a number of priceless memories, even though things started to go worse after that, mostly for political reasons.
Olonga’s tweet read, “I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive folks.” This revelation instantly changed the mood of countless fans from grief to relief.
For the past few years, Heath Streak has been fighting cancer
Although the ex-player is currently in a state of good health and alive, it appears that just a few months ago, his situation was fairly grave. David Coltart, Zimbabwe’s former minister of education, sport, and culture, had said in May that Heath Streak was battling with a long-standing struggle against liver and colon cancer, and his health was notably declining during that period.
After retiring from his career as a player, the all-rounder moved his concentration towards teaching. Due to health issues, he hasn’t been actively involved over the previous few years. Nevertheless, his coaching journey with Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and Scotland has left behind outstanding and cherished experiences.
