Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka didn’t hold back his frustration as he expressed his discontent with LSG skipper KL Rahul following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s commanding 10-wicket victory.
After winning the toss, KL Rahul opted to bat first on what seemed like a promising pitch in Hyderabad. However, things didn’t quite go according to plan for his team. Their innings got off to a rocky start with Quinton de Kock making a quick exit after scoring just 2 runs, thanks to a brilliant catch by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar struck again, claiming Marcus Stoinis’ wicket for just 3 runs, adding to LSG’s woes. Then, just when it seemed like Rahul was settling in, he fell victim to Pat Cummins’ bowling, departing after a rather lackluster innings of 29 runs off 33 balls.
Krunal Pandya’s run-out further compounded LSG’s troubles, leaving them at 66 for 4 after 11.2 overs. It was then up to Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni to salvage the innings. The pair managed to stitch together a valuable 99-run partnership for the 5th wicket, helping LSG post a target of 166 runs.
Despite the challenging target, SRH’s Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma turned the tables with a blistering performance. Head hammered 89 runs off just 30 balls, while Sharma scored 75 off 28 balls, both smashing 8 fours and 8 sixes each.
The humiliating loss left LSG fans and players disappointed, with owner Sanjiv Goenka expressing his frustration by publicly scolding KL Rahul. This move didn’t sit well with fans, who felt Rahul didn’t deserve such treatment from the franchise’s owner, especially considering his past successes. Many voiced their support for Rahul, emphasizing that champions should be treated with respect and dignity.
