Ambati Rayudu, the former Indian cricketer, expressed his excitement over his debut in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He highlighted the noticeable differences in the atmosphere between the CPL and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rayudu’s involvement marks him as the second Indian cricket player, coming after Pravin Tambe, to engage in the men’s CPL.
After bidding farewell to IPL and domestic cricket following the 2023 IPL season, Rayudu made his way to the Texas Super Kings, which is associated with CSK and participates in the first-ever Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States. Unfortunately, owing to personal issues, he had to step back from MLC agreements, despite the excitement of his signing.
Talking about the experience in CPL, Rayudu appreciated the chance he is getting to participate in the tournament/ and said:
“I have heard some really good things about the league, especially the standard of cricket that’s played here. I am happy to be part of the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Pollard and Bravo used to talk a lot about the CPL. This is the first time I’m playing in a dressing room without any Indians, so that’s a bit strange and it feels a bit different but they’re really nice people.”
“They have been very warm. Playing in the CPL is a very different experience as compared to playing in India. They have a lot of music and a lot of fun. It’s all a bit new to me but I’m really enjoying it so far,” Ambati Rayudu said in an interview with Fancode.
He made his decision in the midst of talks regarding a potential break period suggested by the BCCI. This pause would prevent players who had recently retired from immediately joining foreign leagues after their retirement. Following this, Rayudu made his debut for the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the CPL on August 19th, playing against the Trinbago Knight Riders. Unfortunately, rain played spoilsport, and Rayudu didn’t get an opportunity to bat.
