Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu who last played his IPL match in 2023 is all set to represent Joburg Super Kings in the second season of SA20.
Ambati Rayudu, at 37 years of age, maintains a strong and positive rapport with the Super Kings franchise. His association with them spans six years in the Indian Premier League, showcasing a deep connection.
Recently, Rayudu’s cricket journey took an interesting turn. Initially, he announced his participation with the Texas Super Kings in the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC). However, citing family reasons, he later had to withdraw. Although it was widely speculated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) played a role in this decision, the Indian cricket governing body has recently introduced a rule mandating a one-year cooling-off period for players before engaging in foreign leagues.
This rule was believed to be the reason behind Rayudu’s change of plans. But surprisingly, just a month later, the cricketer from Andhra Pradesh signed up with the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season. Additionally, there are indications of his involvement with Joburg.
Kasi Vishwanathan, a representative of the Super Kings, is actively engaging with Rayudu, Faf du Plessis (the team’s captain), and Stephen Fleming (the coach) to facilitate the process.
Meanwhile, the chairman of St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Mahesh Ramani, expressed genuine enthusiasm about having Rayudu join the team for the upcoming season. Ramani emphasized that Rayudu’s extensive experience will significantly benefit the team, potentially guiding younger players and contributing to the team’s pursuit of a second championship victory in the league.
“I’m pleased to inform Patriots fans that Ambati Rayudu has been signed as one of our overseas players for the 2023 season. Ambati’s extensive experience, having won multiple championships with various teams during his illustrious career in India, will undoubtedly enhance the development of our young players as we aim for our second CPL title in 2023,” Ramani concluded.
