Ben Stokes made a stunning comeback to One-day International cricket, leaving cricket enthusiasts worldwide in sheer amazement with his remarkable performance against New Zealand in the third ODI.
Stokes, who had previously announced his return to One Day International (ODI) cricket, etched his name in the record books with a stunning performance. He hammered an astonishing 182 runs off just 124 deliveries, catapulting England to an enormous total of 369. This incredible innings saw him surpass the previous record for the highest individual ODI score record held by Jason Roy, who had amassed 180 runs.
Chris Woakes, a well-respected all-rounder, had nothing but admiration for the 32-year-old, describing him as an extraordinary individual capable of achieving remarkable feats on the cricket pitch.
“We obviously see Ben as this superhuman that can do incredible things. We know he can. It was great for the group and brilliant for Ben too. He’s an unbelievable cricketer but coming back into the team having retired, it will do his confidence a world of good,” Woakes said after the match.
England’s all-rounder delivered a remarkable performance, smashing an incredible nine sixes and 15 fours. This not only ignited the Kennington Oval with excitement but also propelled England to a dominant 181-run victory over New Zealand. The right-handed batsman went on to commend Stokes for the grace and strength in his shots, as well as the mental resilience that cricket demands.
“We always have doubts and performance anxieties at the best of times, so it’s great for his confidence and great for the team’s confidence and belief that we can post huge scores. It was amazing to be here and play in the game because that was an incredible knock. He struck it cleaner than anyone else out there. It just shows how good a player he is,” Woakes further added.
