Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has confidently predicted the two teams that will face off in the finals of the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Harbhajan Singh is eagerly anticipating a showdown between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in the final of the current IPL season. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have already secured their spot in the playoffs of the 17th IPL season, finishing at the top with 20 points from 14 matches. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched the fourth playoff spot following their victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The Royal Challengers Bangalore ensured their place in the playoffs with a decisive win against CSK at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 18. Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, RCB achieved a convincing 27-run victory in their final league match in front of their home supporters.
Despite losing seven of their first eight games, RCB made a remarkable comeback with six consecutive victories. This achievement made them the first team in IPL history to secure a playoff spot after winning only one of their initial seven matches.
Harbhajan Singh has predicted that the final will feature a clash between RCB and KKR. He pointed out that this would bring Virat Kohli and KKR’s mentor, Gautam Gambhir, back into the spotlight, especially given their past on-field confrontations.
“I feel that RCB and KKR will play the final. If that happens Kohli and Gambhir will be back to face each other. RCB can win the trophy from this point, they have fought hard for each run. If they play with this energy then it will be hard to stop this team,” Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube channel.
The rivalry between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir drew significant attention in the last IPL season. During one match, Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq got into a heated argument on the field. Post-match, Gambhir, who was the mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), also had a confrontation with Kohli. Later, Kohli engaged in an extended conversation with LSG captain KL Rahul to clear the air.
This year, however, Kohli and Gambhir have resolved their differences. The two were seen chatting and hugging during the RCB vs KKR match in Bengaluru. Gambhir continues to serve as the mentor for the two-time champions.
