In Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went head-to-head in the 10th match of IPL 2024.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to field first against their rivals. Making a couple of changes in their lineup, they swapped Nitish Rana and Suyash Sharma for Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Anukul Roy. On the other side, the home team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, stuck with their initial playing eleven.
The game kicked off with RCB’s Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis cautiously opening the innings, managing to gather 7 runs off Mitchell Starc’s first over. However, Kohli’s attempt to step up the pace cost him his wicket to Harshit Rana in the second over. Despite the setback, RCB didn’t hold back, aggressively taking on Starc in the following over and accumulating 17 runs. By the end of the powerplay, they had posted a score of 61/1.
Cameron Green and Virat Kohli formed a formidable partnership, contributing 33 and 32 runs respectively, totaling 65 runs together. However, Green fell victim to Andre Russell in the 9th over, bringing Glenn Maxwell to the crease. Although Maxwell had a couple of close calls, he failed to make the most of them and was eventually dismissed by Sunil Narine after scoring 28 runs off 19 balls.
Despite losing wickets, Kohli held his ground and played a magnificent innings, ending unbeaten with 83 runs off 59 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Dinesh Karthik provided crucial support towards the end with a quickfire 20 runs, helping RCB set a target of 182/6.
KKR’s opening pair, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine came out with guns blazing, propelling their team to 86 runs in just 6.3 overs. Salt scored 30 runs off 20 balls, while Narine impressed with 47 runs off 22 balls. Venkatesh Iyer added to the onslaught with a brisk 50 off 30 balls, and captain Shreyas Iyer sealed the deal with 39 runs off 24 balls. KKR secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over RCB, marking their second win in as many matches.
KKR has made history by clinching the first away win of the season in the IPL 2024, out of the 10 matches played so far. Their victory in Bengaluru extends their impressive winning streak in the city, where they haven’t lost to RCB since 2015.
