The BCCI just dropped some big news regarding the IPL 2024 schedule. They’ve decided to shake things up by rescheduling the matches between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, as well as Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals.
The IPL 2024 schedule saw a slight tweak recently. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) versus Rajasthan Royals (RR) match, initially set for the 17th of April at Eden Gardens, got moved to the 16th. On the other hand, the clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC), planned for the 16th of April at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi International Stadium, got pushed to the 17th.
The reason behind this shuffle was the difficulty faced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in ensuring security for the KKR vs RR match due to the Ramanavmi festival happening around the same time. BCCI communicated this change to both KKR and RR, as well as the respective state associations and broadcasters. They were actively engaged in discussions with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and Kolkata Police to find a suitable alternative slot for the game.
Fortunately, the BCCI managed to avoid major disruptions by simply swapping the dates of the KKR vs RR and GT vs DC matches.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the rescheduling of two TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 matches. The fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders & Rajasthan Royals, which was earlier scheduled to take place on April 17, 2024, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata will now be played a day prior on April 16, 2024.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad was earlier scheduled to host the match between Gujarat Titans & Delhi Capitals on April 16, 2024. The fixture will now be played on April 17, 2024.” – BCCI said in their official statement.
In the ongoing IPL 2024 tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are the only teams yet to taste defeat. Rajasthan Royals have had a stellar start, winning all three of their matches against Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders have secured two wins out of two matches, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, placing them in second position in the standings.
