Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is determined to focus only on the current ongoing T20I series against West Indies rather than contemplating his role in the upcoming Asia Cup and Cricket World Cup tournaments.
Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian leg-spinner, has made it clear that his primary focus at the moment is on the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. He is not thinking about his role in the upcoming Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, both of which will be played in the 50-over format. Chahal’s participation in the 50-over format has been sporadic since his inclusion in the 2019 World Cup squad.
“The only thing I am focused on is that I am here, there are four matches left and I have to perform well in it. I don’t think about things that are not in my hand. I think step by step. I am not thinking about the Asia Cup or the World Cup, I am only thinking about the T20I series against West Indies,” he said in the pre-match conference of the second T20I.
The highly awaited Asia Cup 2023 is set to take place from August 30 to September 17 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Following that, the ODI World Cup is scheduled to happen on home soil from October 5 to November 19. Despite these upcoming major events, Yuzvendra Chahal’s primary focus lies on making valuable contributions to the ongoing T20I series against West Indies.
“I’ve not been playing in the last two-three series. Previously you would have seen me playing in England or West Indies and Kuldeep (Yadav) was not playing then. We need to look at the team combination, you’re playing against whom and where are you playing. If tomorrow there is a turning wicket here then you can also field three spinners in the XI,” Chahal further added.
