India registered a comprehensive win over West Indies in the fourth T20I match of the 5-match series and leveled the series 2-2. The young sensational batter Yashasvi Jaiswal who had a brilliant Test debut in the same tour has again showed his class and power-hitting abilities in the 4th T20I match. Jaiswal had failed to score big in his debut T20I match against West Indies where he only managed to score just one run.
The guests didn’t take West Indies’ 178 runs seriously. They easily chased down the target with three overs to spare. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, the first two players on the team, worked together amazingly. They scored 165 runs before any West Indies bowlers could do much.
Gill left the game after getting 77 runs from 47 balls. On the other hand, Jaiswal stayed till the end with an impressive show of batting skills. He made 84 runs from only 51 balls. He was given the Player of the Match award for his excellent batting. Later, Jaiswal shared that his practice in the Indian Premier League (IPL) helped him perform so well.
After the game, Jaiswal explained that practicing with Jason Holder and Obed McCoy during the IPL helped him get ready to face them. Since Holder and McCoy also play for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, Jaiswal got the chance to practice against them a lot. This practice really paid off during the match.
“Reading the wicket, reading the situation, how I can take the game deep everything is important. My intent is always to score runs. I have played a lot of balls against them (Holder and McCoy in the IPL), helped me to read them,” Jaiswal said.
The Indian batter also praised his batting partner Shubman Gill, who also batted exquisitely to help India level the T20I series. “The partnership with Gill was really amazing. The way we were talking and the way we were taking singles and understanding each other was excellent. He batted really well. The way he was rotating the strike, it’s really important to build the partnership,” Jaiswal added.
Jaiswal also became the 4th youngest player to score a fifty in the T20 format for India at the age of 21 years and 227 days. His 165-run partnership with Shubman Gill is now the joint 2nd highest partnership for India for any wicket in T20Is.
