Former Indian opener, Wasim Jaffer, believes that Ishan Kishan’s form in T20Is is a concern for India and he backs the Mumbai batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, to make his T20I debut in the second game against West Indies in Guyana.
Ishan Kishan has enjoyed a remarkable performance in the Caribbean so far. He scored four consecutive half-centuries, one in the second Test and three in as many ODIs. However, his form took a dip in the first T20I of the five-match series, where he managed only six runs off nine balls. Unfortunately, Ishan has not been able to replicate his domestic success in T20Is. With an average of under 25 and a strike rate of 121.81 in 28 matches, there is concern about his performance in the shortest format.
“I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.
Wasim Jaffer, the former Indian opener, has expressed his worry about Ishan’s form in T20Is and believes that it’s a matter of concern for the Indian team. He has thrown his support behind Yashasvi Jaiswal, a talented batter from Mumbai, suggesting that he should make his T20I debut in the second game of the series, scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 6, in Guyana. Yashasvi showcased his potential during the two-match Test series against the West Indies, scoring 171, 57, and 38 in three innings. His impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season further adds to the backing he receives.
With the series ongoing, all eyes will be on how Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal perform, making it an exciting prospect for cricket enthusiasts.
