BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Secretary Jay Shah had a meeting with the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid in Miami. The meeting took place after the third T20I against West Indies on Tuesday, August 08 as India trailed by 1-2 in the five-match series.
It seems like India’s preparation for the forthcoming Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 is not up to the mark. The team’s batting lineup, aside from the solid three of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill, seems unstable. This susceptibility was evident in the initial One Day International (ODI) where India struggled to chase down a small total of 115 runs, even as Kohli and Rohit changed their batting positions.
As concerns grew regarding India’s preparedness for these big competitions, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, arranged a meeting with Indian head coach Rahul Dravid in Miami. This meeting happened subsequent to the third Twenty20 International (T20I) versus West Indies when India trailed 1-2 in the five-match series.
Reportedly, the talk between the two lasted about two hours and took place in the hotel where Shah was lodged. While the particular topics of talk remain hidden, there is conjecture that they focused on strategizing for the impending World Cup in 2023, hosted by India and commencing on October 5.
Rahul Dravid, the current Indian head coach has been criticized heavily after India’s series against West Indies. Some have questioned his leadership, while others have urged the appointment of a new coach for the T20I format.
The Ireland series will be important for Jasprit Bumrah
In the meantime, the Indian team is expected to undergo a preparatory camp for the Asia Cup 2023 in Alur, Bengaluru, commencing on August 24. However, the selection committee is currently awaiting information regarding when the squad for this continental tournament will be decided. It is anticipated that the selection process would come after India’s debut T20I match against Ireland on August 18. This match also marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah to international cricket after an absence of 11 months.
