The upcoming Asia Cup 2023 event is set to take place in mutual collaboration between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This hybrid model of hosting will feature a 50-over format for the matches. The participating teams in this edition of the tournament will include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a new contender, Nepal.
The last edition in 2022 took on a T20 format, serving as a preparation tournament for the T20 World Cup in Australia. However, this year, with a focus on the 2023 World Cup in India, the spotlight turns to the top six teams from Asia, all aiming to demonstrate their full prowess in this competition.
The upcoming Asia Cup 2023 is set to be held across Sri Lanka and Pakistan, following a unique hybrid model. While initially, Pakistan was chosen as the sole host for the tournament, a disagreement with the BCCI led the ACC to make a decision to have both Sri Lanka and Pakistan share the co-hosting responsibilities for the Asia Cup 2023.
The Asia Cup 2023 is set to feature six teams, divided into two groups of three each. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 4 round, where they will face off.
Subsequently, the leading two teams from the Super 4 round will compete for the 16th Asia Cup title in the Final at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium on September 17th. In Group A, we have India, Pakistan, and Nepal, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
The entire tournament is scheduled to be played across four grounds spanning two different countries. This marks the first instance in Asia Cup history where the event will take place in two different nations. Matches will be hosted in Pakistan’s Multan and Lahore, as well as Sri Lanka’s Colombo and Kandy.
