Rahul Dravid, the coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed his delight at witnessing the return of the exceptional fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, in action. This exciting development took place during the team’s preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, at a dedicated training camp nestled in Alur, Karnataka.
After a tremendously long wait, India is gearing up for the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, and the good news is that they’ll be traveling there with a practically complete roster. The Indian team has had its fair share of injury difficulties recently, but the good side is that most of the major players have managed to recuperate just in time.
It’s an eagerly anticipated return to the ODI cricket arena for Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna after a very long layoff due to their ailments. Unfortunately, KL Rahul’s return will be delayed by a week as he continues with his recovery process.
The spotlight is now on these athletes as they step back onto the pitch. They’ve all gone through operations to repair their respective issues, and while Bumrah and Krishna have already shown some outstanding performances during the T20I series against Ireland, it’s worth noting that Shreyas and Rahul are still to make their full-fledged recovery. They’ve simply had a practice match at the National Cricket Academy to test the waters.
All eyes will be on how these guys perform, considering the hardships they’ve experienced and the hard effort they’ve put in to bounce back. With Bumrah and Krishna flourishing in the Ireland T20Is and Shreyas and Rahul easing back into the rhythm, it’s going to be a fascinating ride for the Indian squad in the Asia Cup.
Rahul Dravid expressed his happiness about the entire team being back together, but he also mentioned that the team would handle Bumrah’s comeback thoughtfully.
“Yeah, so it’s great to have them back and see them bowling, and bowling well, is truly good. “Jasprit is someone we’ve missed a lot over the last two years. I must say he’s not played a lot of games. But it’s nice to have him back and we’ll ease him into it, slowly.
“It was nice for him to get those 4 overs sort of, like the tour of Ireland, for both of them to ease in with sort of some four overs of bowling. And then now it gives us a chance in the Asia Cup to build that up and pick that up, and we have a whole month now to build that up before the World Cup as well,” Dravid was quoted by PTI.
