In the most recent ICC ODI bowler rankings, India’s fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj, has made an impressive leap from his previous ninth position to secure the coveted top spot. This remarkable ascent in the rankings signifies a substantial advancement in Siraj’s standing among the world’s best ODI bowlers.
In January of this year, Siraj secured the top spot, only to be replaced by Josh Hazlewood in March. However, thanks to his superb effort that played a vital role in dismissing the hosts for a measly 50 runs and securing a comprehensive 10-wicket victory for India, Siraj has now risen up the rankings by eight spots.
Another noteworthy climber in the last weekly update, just a little over two weeks ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, is South Africa’s spinner, Keshav Maharaj. Maharaj’s excellent efforts in the South Africa vs Australia series, particularly his statistics of four for 33 in the final match that enabled South Africa to win a five-match ODI series after losing the first two matches, moved him to 15th rank. This marks a remarkable jump of 10 places from his previous career-best rating.
In the bowling department, there were major advancements as well. Afghanistan’s spinners, Mujeeb-ur Rahman and Rashid Khan made strides, with Rahman moving up two positions to fourth and Khan jumping three slots to fifth. England’s versatile player, Chris Woakes, now stands in 11th place, while South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi secured the 21st spot.
Turning our attention to the ICC Batting Rankings, Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa and England’s Dawid Malan displayed remarkable advancement in the batting statistics. Klaasen’s superb 174-run performance against Australia in Centurion put him into the top 10 for the first time. Meanwhile, Malan attained a career-best 13th position after scoring 277 runs in the three matches he played in the series.
Ben Stokes also made a major rise, jumping 13 ranks to reach 36th position in the batting rankings after recording England’s highest-ever total of 182 at The Oval.
