Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, alongside the presence of Senior Men’s Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, unveiled a squad of 17 members set to participate in the imminent tournament. This revelation transpired during a press briefing held on Monday, August 21. Indian keeper-batter KL Rahul has been selected for the much-awaited India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
Notable comebacks were seen in the ODI team, including many important individuals making their return. Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, who celebrated their international comeback by competing in the ongoing T20Is against Ireland, have been named for the squad.
Alongside them, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have also secured positions in the team. This announcement creates enormous enthusiasm for fans, since all four players have crucial responsibilities within the ODI squad.
“Shreyas Iyer has been declared fully fit. It is great news. KL Rahul is carrying a niggle. But we expect him to get fit by the second or third game of the Asia Cup. These two are extremely important players for us,” Ajit Agarkar said.
Notably, KL Rahul was sidelined for a duration of four months due to injury. However, he is now geared up to make his comeback to the Indian cricket team. Rahul had to undergo a surgical procedure in Germany for the same issue, which led to his absence during the latter part of IPL 2023. The skilled batsman’s anticipated return is anticipated in either the second or third match of the upcoming Asia Cup.
While his inclusion in the prestigious tournament has been confirmed, Ajit Agarkar has stated that Rahul won’t be available for the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup. It’s worth noting that he is likely to make his appearance in the second or third match of the Asia Cup. In a precautionary move, Sanju Samson has been designated as the backup player for the squad.
