The Indian Cricket Team excitedly began their preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on Friday. Over at Alur, a four-day training camp with the selected squad for the India Asia Cup was set in motion. During this time, both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid took command, aiming to address recurring difficulties with the team.
On the first day of the training camp, the complete coaching staff for the Indian cricket team, together with the physiotherapists and trainers from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), were present. The day got off at 10 AM with some moderate warm-up exercises and fitness drills. All the players, excluding KL Rahul, performed the yo-yo test before commencing the camp activities.
Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were hard in the nets, focusing on match simulations. They faced a hard session from Mohammed Siraj on the center pitch, batting for extended hours against his powerful bowling.
Mohammed Shami, who took a sabbatical for the entire IND versus WI series, is back in action now. Mohammed Siraj has also returned after his West Indies visit was cut short. In addition to them, we have Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna, and Jasprit Bumrah as the other fast bowlers on the team. Since Prasidh and Bumrah are coming back from recent injuries, the squad will be mindful of regulating their workloads.
Despite his injury, KL Rahul is still with the Indian team. He’s been actively participating in various fitness and training activities, and it seems like his injury isn’t too significant. There’s optimism that Rahul can contribute with the bat in the ODIs, but there are reservations about his ability to keep wickets. As a backup, we have Ishan Kishan who can also keep, and Sanju Samson is in reserve. Rahul has been honing his batting in the nets and has been in regular discussions with the NCA physios.
Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain of the team, had an extended bowling practice. Our head coach, Rahul Dravid, was intently observing from the sidelines as the group went through various routines.
