In the Asia Cup 2023 Group A match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, made the decision to field first after winning the toss in their ongoing game against Nepal.
In the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 encounter between India and Nepal, the Indian bowlers made an outstanding start, constantly delivering well-placed deliveries and creating multiple possibilities for wickets. However, the Indian fielders regretfully let the team down by missing three rather routine catches.
The first drop occurred as Shreyas Iyer missed a catch in the slip position. It happened in the very first over, delivered by Mohammed Shami, when Nepal’s opener, Kushal Bhurtel, grabbed an outside edge off an out-swinging delivery. Regrettably, Iyer couldn’t hang onto the chance at first slip.
The heartbreak continued as Virat Kohli lost a catch at covers on the first delivery of the second over. Mohammed Siraj induced a drive from Nepal’s other opener, Aasif Sheikh, and the batsman sent it straight to Kohli at cover. It felt like a routine catch, but Kohli, surprisingly, couldn’t hang on to it.
A couple of overs later, wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan added to the squandered opportunities by losing another easy chance, this time of Bhurtel, again off the bowling of Mohammed Shami.
These straight drops have been demoralizing for the Indian squad, as they’ve allowed the Nepalese hitters to continue their innings without any hiccups.
