Bangladesh have announced their 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament which is all set to start from August 30. Tanzid Hasan has been called up for the mega tournament after giving some brilliant performances in domestic cricket.
Looking ahead, Bangladesh has unveiled their 17-player squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Tanzid Hasan Tamim is stepping in for the injured Tamim Iqbal in the squad. Tamim Iqbal, who is currently recovering from a back injury, has also relinquished his role as the ODI team captain. BCB chairman Nazmul Hassan Papon confirmed that veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will lead the team in the upcoming major tournaments.
Tanzid Hasan showcased his prowess with three half-centuries during the Emerging Asia Cup. His consistent performance earned him a spot in the Asia Cup squad. Notably, he made a significant impact in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), raising expectations for his performance.
The team has seen the return of Shamim Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, and Nasum Ahmed. However, Rony Talukdar, who impressed in the previous BPL edition, and Taijul Islam, with only four matches in the last four months, have missed out.
On the other hand, experienced batsman Mahmudullah has once again been left out. After last representing the team in March 2023, he’s been out of contention. Despite selectors initially mentioning his rest during the Ireland series, he subsequently missed the Afghanistan series and is now absent from the Asia Cup squad.
Shakib Al Hasan, now leading the team, faces the challenge of guiding the squad amidst recent upheavals. He will play a crucial role in stabilizing the dressing room and steering Bangladesh forward.
