The Asia Cup 2023 final is right around the corner, set to see an exciting face-off between Team India and Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17. Emerging reports suggest that there’s a chance we might not see India’s versatile all-rounder, Axar Patel, in action during the much-anticipated final against Sri Lanka.
As fans eagerly anticipate the final match of the Asia Cup 2023, they might be in for some significant lineup changes, especially concerning star all-rounder Axar Patel. According to reports from Cricbuzz, there’s a growing likelihood that Axar could sit out the final due to injuries sustained during the clash against Bangladesh.
While the full extent of Axar’s injury remains uncertain, it seems probable that he won’t be taking the field against Sri Lanka, with Washington Sundar poised to step in as his replacement. Sundar is currently in Bangalore, actively participating in the training camp. His inclusion as a replacement solidifies the notion that Axar Patel might indeed miss the all-important Asia Cup final.
Sundar’s last appearance in an ODI was back in January 2023, so he’s undoubtedly eager to deliver a stellar performance if he gets the nod in the final lineup.
It’s not just Team India dealing with injury setbacks; Sri Lanka is also facing its fair share of challenges. Their star spinner, Maheesh Theekshana, has been ruled out of the championship match due to a muscle injury. This setback is particularly concerning for the defending champions, as Theekshana has been one of their standout performers.
In addition to Theekshana, Sri Lanka has had to contend with a string of injuries affecting key players. The likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara will all be absent from the Asia Cup final due to various injuries.
