This announcement follows Dhoni’s potentially final IPL match at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Although Dhoni didn’t get a chance to bat, his team, CSK, secured a victory against the Rajasthan Royals, further solidifying their position in the playoff race.
As Dhoni gears up for his last league match of the 2024 IPL season against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 18th, Rayudu’s words serve as a poignant reminder of the impact Dhoni has had on cricket fans across the nation.
Speaking with Star Sports after CSK’s triumph over the Rajasthan Royals, Rayudu’s admiration for Dhoni was palpable, encapsulating the sentiments of countless fans who have been touched by Dhoni’s legacy.
“He is the God of Chennai and I am sure, temples of MS Dhoni would be built in the years to come in Chennai. He is someone who brought India the joy of two World Cups and has brought Chennai joy with a lot of IPL and Champions League titles. He has just been that one guy who shows belief in his players, who has always done it for the team, for the country and for CSK,” Rayudu told Star Sports.
“He is a legend and someone everybody celebrates in the crowd. They might be thinking that this might be his last game in Chennai,” Rayudu added.
As the IPL’s most successful captain took a victory lap at Chepauk, tossing tennis balls to the cheering crowd, Ambati Rayudu couldn’t contain his emotions as he reflected on his former skipper, MS Dhoni.
Rayudu was brimming with gratitude, describing Dhoni as a deity in Chennai, where his legend has reached divine proportions. He went on to suggest that Dhoni’s legacy might even inspire the construction of temples dedicated to him, such is the reverence he commands for his contributions to both CSK and Indian cricket.
