Harsha Bhogle faced harsh criticism from cricket fans for what they perceived as double standards in his recent analysis of Rohit Sharma’s century against CSK.
In Sunday’s match at the Wankhede Stadium, MI faced a tough loss against CSK, falling short by 20 runs in their chase of 207. Despite Rohit Sharma, the former MI captain, smashing his first century of the Indian Premier League 2024 season, his remarkable effort couldn’t steer his team to victory. Sharma’s century came in 61 balls, clinching it in the final over of the game when the outcome was already decided.
The former MI captain and opener showed his class by holding his ground till the very end, crafting an impressive unbeaten 105 from just 63 deliveries. Despite his valiant effort, Mumbai Indians fell short by 20 runs in their chase of 207 against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Following the intense clash between MI and CSK, Harsha Bhogle turned to X to offer his insights on the game.
The popular commentator pointed out that Rohit’s performance was stellar on the field, yet he lacked the necessary backing from his Mumbai teammates during the crucial middle phase of the game against CSK. According to Bhogle, for Mumbai to secure a win against Chennai, Rohit could have benefited from some rapid contributions from his fellow teammates to bolster the team’s finish.
“Excellent innings in a chase by Rohit. Went at almost par but didn’t get the quick cameos through the middle in support. Needed a couple of 20(10) at the other end to set up the finish.” – Harsha wrote on his X handle.
Harsha’s recent review didn’t sit well with fans, especially those backing Virat Kohli. They’re really laying into him for what they see as double standards. One point they’re making is about Rohit Sharma’s innings where he scored his last 17 runs off 17 balls when Mumbai Indians needed a high run rate. They’re arguing that if Kohli had done the same, Harsha would’ve criticized him for being slow and too focused on selfies.
