The former England captain, Michael Vaughan believes that Rohit Sharma might just be donning the Chennai Super Kings jersey in the IPL 2025.
Michael Vaughan has made a bold prediction concerning Rohit Sharma’s future in the IPL. According to the former England skipper, Sharma might make a move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming season and potentially replace MS Dhoni. Transfer talks surrounding Rohit Sharma have been circulating in the IPL 2024 grapevine.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) captaincy situation has also been a hot topic. Before the start of IPL 2024, the team stripped Rohit Sharma of his captaincy, appointing Hardik Pandya, who returned to MI from Gujarat Titans, as the new skipper. Sharma had successfully led the side since the 2013 season. However, this decision didn’t sit well with MI fans, who criticized the franchise for sidelining Sharma. Some fans even expressed their dissatisfaction by booing Hardik Pandya during the initial games of Mumbai Indians.
Despite Michael Vaughan’s remarks, speculation continues about MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL. Dhoni himself hinted last year that IPL 2024 could potentially be his final season as a player. Speaking on a podcast with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Vaughan highlighted these points. He said: “Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai,”
Ranveer Allahbadia responded, saying it would be really tough for Mumbai Indians fans to handle.
“That’d be heartbreaking, honestly. For MI fans, that’d be terrible. I wouldn’t mind him going to (Sunrisers) Hyderabad; he played for Deccan Chargers, so that would be romantic,” Vaughan said.
Michael Vaughan wondered if Sharma would face jeers while playing for CSK. Ranveer responded with a resolute no. “Then, he’s playing for Chennai,” responded Vaughan.
CSK made a significant decision regarding leadership by appointing Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been consistently impressive since the 2021 season. Gaikwad has led the team well, guiding them to victory in three out of their first five games, maintaining an impressive record at their home ground in Chennai.
The captaincy situation for the Mumbai Indians has been a hot topic before and during the IPL 2024 season. Hardik Pandya took over from Rohit Sharma as captain but faced criticism from fans at the Wankhede Stadium. Many Mumbai Indians supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with Rohit Sharma’s removal as the team’s captain.
Michael Vaughan shares the sentiment that Mumbai Indians should have entrusted Rohit Sharma with the captaincy for IPL 2024 and considered appointing Hardik Pandya as the captain for future seasons.
“I personally would’ve captained Rohit. Hardik coming back to MI is big enough pressure in itself, and Rohit is obviously going to be the Indian T20 captain. The sensible move would’ve been for Rohit to carry as MI captain with Hardik in mind for next year or two,” Vaughan said.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are gearing up to face off against the Chennai Super Kings. This exciting clash is scheduled for Sunday, April 14th, and it’s all going down at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
