Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) is on the verge of creating a historic moment in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rishabh Pant is on the brink of making history as the first cricketer from the Delhi Capitals to reach a significant milestone in the IPL. Pant kicked off his IPL journey with the Delhi-based squad back in 2016 and swiftly became a crucial player. He took up the mantle of captaincy in 2021 when Shreyas Iyer was sidelined due to injury.
However, a setback hit Pant hard when he faced a life-threatening car accident in December 2022, forcing him to miss the entirety of the last IPL season. Despite this, the franchise showed faith in him by retaining him for the upcoming season. Pant marked his return to the field in DC’s first match this season, scoring 18 runs off 13 balls and also shouldering the wicketkeeping duties. Nonetheless, DC ended up losing to the Punjab Kings.
Looking ahead, DC is gearing up to clash with the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, March 28. The Sanju Samson-led RR squad is riding high on confidence after securing a 20-run win against Lucknow Super Giants in their last encounter in IPL 2024.
Pant has been quite the standout for DC, racking up an impressive tally of 2,856 runs in 99 matches, boasting an average of 34.41. With 15 half-centuries and a century to his name, he’s been a pivotal figure in the team’s batting lineup.
What sets him apart even more is his striking ability, with a strike rate of 147.90, showing his knack for scoring runs swiftly and turning the tide of a game. Since he took on the role of captain in 2021, Pant has played a key part in molding the team’s tactics and success.
As he braces for his 100th match, Pant surpasses some of the DC greats in terms of appearances, leaving behind names like Amit Mishra (99 matches), Shreyas Iyer (87 matches), and David Warner (82 matches), among others. This milestone isn’t just about Pant’s loyalty to DC but also about the significant impact he’s had on the team’s achievements throughout the years.
