Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has stepped up to put an end to all the rumors surrounding the location of the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, affirming that it will indeed take place within India.
Last month, the BCCI announced the schedule for the first half of IPL 2024, starting with a clash between CSK and RCB on March 22 and concluding with a match between LSG and GT on April 7.
However, on Saturday, March 16, reports surfaced suggesting that the BCCI was considering hosting the second half of the IPL outside India due to potential clashes with the General Elections. The UAE was mentioned as a possible venue, given its past hosting of the IPL. Additionally, there were rumors that franchises were collecting players’ passports.
Clarifying the situation, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah denied any plans to move the IPL to the UAE, putting an end to speculation surrounding the tournament’s location.
In a statement to Cricbuzz, Jay Shah dismissed these rumours, confirming that the entire IPL would be held in India as scheduled. “No, it won’t be moved overseas,” Shah said.
The BCCI is gearing up to unveil the complete schedule of IPL 2024 following the announcement of the General Election dates by the Election Commission of India. The elections are scheduled to occur in seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1. With the polling dates now finalized, anticipation is high for the BCCI to release the full IPL schedule soon. Currently, only the dates for the initial 21 matches, scheduled from March 22 to April 7, have been officially confirmed. In an exciting start to the tournament, the defending champions Chennai Super Kings will face off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match, set to take place in Chennai.
