On the second day of the third Test match between India and England, the veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the remarkable milestone of 500 wickets in Test cricket.
It took Ashwin 98 Tests to reach a historic milestone, with England’s Zak Crawley becoming his 500th Test wicket. Ashwin, now the second Indian spinner to achieve this feat after Anil Kumble, also secured the title of the second-fastest bowler in Test cricket history.
In the 14th over’s first ball, Crawley attempted a sweeping shot against Ravichandran Ashwin but ended up top-edging it. A simple catch in the fine leg region was taken by Rajat Patidar. Ashwin’s prowess as one of India’s greatest spinners is evident, and his cricket intelligence shines through, consistently delivering crucial wickets when the team needs them.
Ravichandran Ashwin has now joined the ranks of Anil Kumble as only the second Indian bowler to achieve this remarkable feat. Notably, the seasoned Indian spinner has set a new record by becoming the quickest player to reach the milestone of 500 Test wickets. Impressively, he holds the title for being the fastest to secure 50 wickets, 100 wickets, 150 wickets, 200 wickets, 250 wickets, 300 wickets, 350 wickets, 400 wickets, and 450 wickets as well.
