The International Cricket Council (ICC) was happy to induct three new members into the esteemed ICC Hall of Fame on Monday. The powerful opener Virender Sehwag, the trailblazing Indian classic Diana Edulji, and the phenomenal Sri Lankan Aravinda de Silva are among the renowned entrants.
Virender Sehwag, the exuberant Indian cricketer, was a bowler’s nightmare in his prime, thanks to his aggressive approach at the crease. Whether it was the fast-paced ODIs or the strategic Test matches, Sehwag’s dynamic batting style played a pivotal role in consistently setting the stage for India with electrifying starts.
On Monday, the ICC welcomed three outstanding players into its prestigious Hall of Fame: Virender Sehwag, Diana Edulji, and Aravinda de Silva.
Virender Sehwag, an iconic figure in cricket, now stands tall in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, boasting an impressive record. His bat thundered with 23 Test centuries, ranking him fifth among Indian players. Notably, he achieved a monumental score of 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008. Sehwag’s prowess extended to the 50-over format, amassing 8,273 runs, and his memorable 219 against the West Indies in Indore in 2011 remains the third-highest score in the history of men’s ODIs. A pivotal contributor to India’s 2011 World Cup victory, Sehwag played a stellar role, contributing 380 runs to the historic triumph.
Thrilled by the honor, Sehwag expressed his joy at joining the illustrious ICC Hall of Fame.
“I would like to thank the ICC and the jury for inducting me with this honour,” Sehwag said as quoted by ICC.
“I feel extremely grateful for having spent a great part of my life doing what I loved most, ‘hitting the cricket ball’.
“I would also like to thank my family, friends, people I played with, and countless people who prayed for me selflessly.”

De Silva, a key player in Sri Lanka’s victory in the 1996 ODI Cricket World Cup, has earned a well-deserved spot in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2023. This right-handed batsman notched up an impressive 20 Test centuries and hammered 11 hundreds in 50-over cricket. His unforgettable unbeaten 107 against Australia in the 1996 World Cup final remains etched in cricket history.
