The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a formal complaint regarding the disrespectful conduct witnessed towards the Pakistan team during the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan on October 14, 2023, held at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in India.
Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad gave host to the epic confrontation of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as traditional rivals India and Pakistan met in a highly anticipated duel on a Saturday. Unfortunately for Pakistan, the game resulted in a thumping triumph for the Indian squad, marking another chapter in their World Cup history. The stadium, flooded in shades of blue, was packed with enthusiastic Indian spectators, presenting a rather one-sided advantage to the home team.
Regrettably, some members of the Ahmedabad crowd demonstrated unsportsmanlike conduct, raising improper slogans during the match, which made the Pakistani players uncomfortable. In response to this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a protest, expressing their concerns over their players being subjected to such behavior in Ahmedabad. Furthermore, the PCB has also publicly objected to the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the delayed issuing of visas for Pakistani media and the absence of a defined visa policy for Pakistani supporters attending the present ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
The PCB’s complaint to the ICC did not detail the actual occurrence but was sent through a tweet from the PCB’s official social media handle. It was claimed that PCB’s chief, Zaka Ashraf, has been involved in extensive consultations with board officials concerning his visit to India.
Pakistan’s cricket team director, Mickey Arthur, raised an eyebrow when he attributed Pakistan’s loss to India to an unexpected factor – the absence of the iconic song ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ being played by the DJ. He expressed that the atmosphere felt more like a BCCI event than an ICC one. In response, Greg Barcley, the chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC), assured that the governing body is putting in every effort to ensure the World Cup is a resounding success, following India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan.
