Irfan Pathan took a playful jab at Pakistanis once again following India’s resounding triumph in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka. The victory was nothing short of spectacular, exceeding the expectations of all who witnessed it.
In a remarkable display of bowling mastery, Mohammed Siraj secured a phenomenal 6-wicket haul during a seven-over stint with the new ball, completely dismantling Sri Lanka. What truly stood out was his second over, during which he snatched four wickets. This remarkable feat marked only the third instance in ODI history, where we have ball-by-ball data, of a bowler claiming four wickets in a single over. This pivotal over essentially sealed the match for India, following Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka’s decision to bat first after winning the toss.
The initial breakthrough was provided by Jasprit Bumrah in the very first over, setting the tone for India’s bowling dominance. However, it was Mohammed Siraj who unleashed havoc with his six-wicket haul, leaving Sri Lanka reeling. To add to the Lankan misery, Hardik Pandya swiftly mopped up the remaining wickets. In a mere 21.2 overs, India successfully bowled out Sri Lanka for a paltry 50 runs.
Armed with such a modest target, Captain Rohit Sharma opted to have Ishan Kishan partner with Shubman Gill to open the innings. This dynamic duo efficiently chased down the 51-run target in just 6.1 overs, securing India’s 8th Asia Cup trophy. This remarkable victory marked their 7th triumph in the ODI Asia Cup, complementing their earlier T20 Asia Cup title in 2016.
This resulted in a wave of online trolling directed at both Sri Lanka and the Pakistan cricket team, following Sri Lanka’s recent victory over Pakistan.
Among many Indians, former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was also one who took a hilarious dig and the now-famous trolling of the “Padosi” Pakistani fans.
Irfan Pathan tweeted: “Padosi abhi bhi Awaz Karne ki Koshish Kar rahe hai, Lekin Colombo Tak unki Awaaz pahoch nahi rahi hai. #Sunday”
