Heading into the Asia Cup 2023 and the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, there’s no denying that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will be shouldering an immense amount of pressure. Rohit Sharma was incredible in the last edition of the ODI World Cup. The opener hit 648 runs in nine matches and finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
Heading into the Asia Cup 2023 and the highly anticipated ODI World Cup following Indian skipper Rohit Sharma finds himself bearing a huge weight of expectations. The 2023 World Cup, slated to open on October 5th with a contest between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad, has more than a billion hopes hinging on it, and Rohit is painfully mindful of this fact.
In the middle of this rising pressure and the chaos of anticipation for these two major events, Rohit Sharma is maintaining a remarkable level of serenity. He readily acknowledges the massive hopes vested in him ahead of the ODI World Cup, which serves as a reminder of the responsibilities he faces.
Rohit Sharma has underlined his ambition to return to the mindset he inhabited prior to the 2019 World Cup. He recalls that time as one when he was in an excellent mental state and had assiduously prepared himself for the competition.
“I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament”
“I was in good shape, good mindset. I want to bring that back and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally,” Rohit Sharma said in an interview with PTI.
The outcome of the World Cup and other significant tournaments can have a profound impact, but Rohit believes that a single month of cricket isn’t what defines the player he is.
“I don’t think one result or one championship can change me as a person. I have not changed as a person in the last 16 years and I don’t think anything needs to change on that front,”
“The focus will be on how I can achieve my goals in the next two months, for me and my team. A person can’t change in a period of one or two months,” Rohit said.

He also mentioned that he’s currently putting his emphasis on enjoying the present moment and creating experiences to remember. This quietly stated to his fans that the approaching World Cup 2023 might be his final participation on such a stage. The 36-year-old Rohit Sharma will be looking further to make this World Cup a memorable one by ending the ICC drought for the Indian team.
“I am not a firm believer in numbers. You should be happy and enjoy the time you have in front of you, and try to live in that kind of moment. I am thinking about what gives me happiness,” he added.
“For me, it’s all about creating memories and creating a good rapport with my teammates. Be happy in whatever you get and whatever you have,” he concluded.
