Bangladesh fast bowler, Taskin Ahmed, shared his own excitement at the possibility of his team making it to the final of the Asia Cup tournament. The competition is planned to take place between August 30 and September 17, extending throughout Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
In the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup, Bangladesh is set to kick off their campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka on August 31st in Pallekele. Following that, they’ll face Afghanistan in Lahore on September 3rd. A crucial role in the pace-bowling lineup will be shouldered by Taskin, especially given Ebadot Hossain’s absence due to a knee injury.
“Our main aim is to play the final of the Asia Cup as the teams’ achievement is the biggest achievement. I will be personally very happy if we can reach the final and could (be) able to play as a team.”
“Please everyone pray for us. Obviously, we wish to become the champion but the main thing is to play better cricket since we have the World Cup coming shortly. If we can play our best cricket it’s possible to become the champion,” Taskin was quoted as saying by The Daily Star ahead of team’s departure.
It was also mentioned in the report that Liton Das, the opening batter, won’t be able to join the Bangladesh cricket team’s journey to Sri Lanka due to having a fever. Jalal Younus, the Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed this. Additionally, he informed that Tanzim Hasan Sakib, a young fast bowler brought in to replace the injured Ebadot, will also head to Sri Lanka separately on a later flight. This is because there were issues with confirming his ticket.
Moving on, the teams that secure the top two spots in Groups A and B will advance to the Asia Cup Super Fours stage. Over there, they will have the opportunity to play three more matches at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It’s worth noting that the final match of the tournament is scheduled to be held at the same venue on September 17th.
