Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag picks captain Rohit Sharma as the leading run-getter in the World Cup 2023. He also said that Indian pitches provide a very good surface to the opener and he has terrific records as an opener.
In a recent statement, the former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said that Captain Rohit Sharma to end up claiming the title of the greatest run-scorer in the upcoming World Cup 2023. Sehwag notes the advantage of Indian wickets, which give perfect circumstances for openers, and underscores Sharma’s great track record in this role.
In a video shared on the ICC’s Instagram account, Sehwag was posed with a question about the top run-scorer in the 2023 World Cup. His pick for this honor was none other than India’s own Rohit Sharma.
“India has got good wickets, so I think openers will get good opportunities. If I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I am Indian and I should pick an Indian, so Rohit Sharma,” said Virender Sehwag.

Moreover, he also mentioned that big tournaments boost his energy levels and allow his best qualities to shine. Therefore, I am quite confident that he will excel in the upcoming tournament.
Rohit Sharma demonstrated an amazing feat by accumulating more than 600 runs in the previous edition of the 2019 Cricket World Cup played in England, which resulted in a staggering five centuries. In five matches he’d accumulated 648 runs and maintained an excellent average of 81, to become the top run producer.
Jacques Kallis, the former South African all-rounder, also made his prediction for the top run-scorer and chose the current white-ball captain of the English team, Joss Buttler, to take that spot.
“I think Jos Buttler will be the leading run-scorer. Outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions along with England having a good World Cup. I think he’s going to be the one guy that stands out,” Kallis said in the video.
