The New Zealand men’s cricket team will tour Bangladesh for the first tour of the country since 2013 for a split ODI and Test series.
On Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board issued the schedule for New Zealand’s widely awaited tour, which includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) leading up to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. This series of limited-overs contests carries enormous importance for both teams as they build up for the forthcoming World Cup.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the itinerary for New Zealand’s tour which includes three ODIs and two Tests and will be played on either side of the ICC Cricket World Cup India 2023. This will be New Zealand’s first ODI and Test series in Bangladesh after 2013. The Tests are a part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship and the first WTC series for Bangladesh in the new cycle,” BCB said in a statement.
The third portion of the tour involves a two-match Test series that forms part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. The red-ball contests are planned after the World Cup, in the months of November and December. The action-packed trip of the Black Caps is all set to take off on September 21. All three ODIs are planned to be contested at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, near Dhaka.
After the conclusion of the World Cup, the Test series is planned to resume in late November, with the particular sites for the Tests to be determined at a later stage. These Test matches are a significant component of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and mark Bangladesh’s introduction into the new cycle of the championship.
New Zealand’s entry into Bangladesh is slated for September 14. They will open the tour with the first Day/Night ODI on September 21, followed by the subsequent ODIs on September 23 and 26. The initial Test is slated from November 26 to December 2, while the second will take place from December 6 to 10.
As the 2019 World Cup finalists, New Zealand is prepared to continue their journey in the Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 5. Their campaign will commence out with a battle against the reigning champions, England, in Ahmedabad as the opening encounter of the tournament.
