Former Indian cricketer and ex-chief selector, MSK Prasad has joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their new Strategic Consultant ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction.
The LSG team is assured that the ex-Indian cricketer would offer considerable experience and expertise to the franchise. Prasad, who formerly held the position of Chairman for the Senior Selection Committee at the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), played a vital part in choosing the Indian team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Unfortunately, India’s adventure ended in the semifinals with a loss to New Zealand.
“Prasad brings with him a wealth of experience and a stellar track record in cricket operations, coupled with a passion that has driven him to remarkable achievements in both national and international arenas. His journey is marked by a range of accomplishments that span from representing the Indian National Cricket Team to steering the operations of prominent cricket associations; all of which will bring valuable insights and experience to our organization,” LSG said in an official statement.
MSK Prasad has served as India’s Chief Selector
MSK Prasad, who entered the international cricket scene in May 1998, showcased his skills in six Test matches and 17 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) while representing India. Across Tests and ODIs, he managed to secure 106 and 131 runs, respectively. During his career at the BCCI, he played a significant part in facilitating talent discovery and player enhancement, with the objective of cultivating a solid pipeline of quality players for the Indian national team across all formats.
The former top selector MSK Prasad has traditionally preferred the inclusion of all-rounders in the squad, citing their ability to contribute spectacularly in all sections of the game across multiple formats. An exemplary example of his attitude was obvious in his disputed selection for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, where he chose the youthful and promising Vijay Shankar above the seasoned campaigner Ambati Rayudu, generating disputes among cricket aficionados.
