As India is gearing up to face Ireland in the first T20I match of the 3-match series where the first match is scheduled to be played on August 18. Ireland’s wicketkeeper-batter, Lorcan Tucker, has given a bold statement ahead of their clash against India.
With a resurrected and self-assured Jasprit Bumrah at the helm, India is ready to be led by him for the first time in T20Is during the next three-match series against Ireland. Looking back to June of the previous year, both India and Ireland clashed in two T20Is staged at Malahide, Dublin. Despite the home team conceding the series 2-0, they exhibited great performance and resilience. This time around, they hold ambitions of scripting a surprising victory against the youthful Indian group.
Lorcan Tucker, Ireland’s wicketkeeper-batsman, had a very muted series against India in the last match. However, during the last several months, he has gathered great experience and is anxiously anticipating his face-off against the Indian side once again. At 26 years old, Tucker noted that Ireland has been actively engaged in multiple cricketing conflicts recently, which surely contributes to their preparedness as they tackle the powerful Indian squad. In addition, he noted the anticipated significant presence of Indian supporters and expressed joy about the beneficial impact it holds for cricket within Ireland.
“We’ve had a lot of cricket this year. We’ve been very well-prepped, especially in T20 cricket. We’ve come off a decent run there in Scotland where we managed to qualify for next year’s World Cup, so I think everyone’s feeling excited. We had two great games against India last summer and I think everyone’s really looking forward to the big build-up, and the exciting crowd. They’re going to come with that energy and it’s going to be great,” Tucker told Ireland Cricket ahead of the series.
“Malahide generates a special feeling – especially when a big team comes to town. We know India may have a good deal of support, but to have such a big crowd – it’s brilliant for cricket in Ireland,” he added.
The team are quite experienced with these bigger games: Lorcan Tucker
Tucker said that Ireland’s past interactions with India and their involvement in key global events have offered them considerable knowledge. His emphasis was on keeping a sense of peace and embracing self-assuredness when facing the former champions of the T20 World Cup.
“The team are quite experienced with these bigger games. We’ve played in World Cups; we’ve played against India before. We know what it’s like when these big pressure games come around. They are the showpiece of the summer for fans in Ireland. We just want to make an impression, stay nice and relaxed and play with confidence. That’s our main motto going forward,” Tucker concluded.
