India will be touring Ireland for a three-match T20I series starting from August 18 under Bumrah’s captaincy. Former India A head coach Sitanshu Kotak has been appointed team India’s head coach, previously VVS Laxman had been appointed as the head coach for the tour.
With big events like the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup on the horizon later this year, India’s regular coaching staff is taking a holiday. This means that head coach Rahul Dravid, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and batting coach Vikram Rathour won’t be mentoring the team.
Upcoming is a three-match T20I series between India against Ireland, commencing on August 18, 2023. VVS Laxman, who leads the National Cricket Academy (NCA), was initially intended to come in as the interim head coach. However, Laxman has decided to stay in Bengaluru for the Emerging camp.
In Laxman’s place, Sitanshu Kotak, NCA’s batting coach, has been given the opportunity to head the team while Dravid and his teammates take their time off. Kotak brings with him expertise, having already served as the head coach for the A-side for numerous years.
A tremendous breath of relief certainly passed through the Men in Blue when Jasprit Bumrah was pronounced totally fit and chosen to skipper the squad for the T20Is against Ireland. This is especially relevant given India’s difficulties with injuries. Bumrah had been out for nearly a year, but his return aligns well with Team India’s vital three-month stretch of ODI matches. Another bowler, Prasidh Krishna, might also gain notice and possibly be called in as backup for the Asia Cup.
Looking into the Ireland series, Bumrah will captain a pretty young side. This group contains some promising players who displayed their ability in the Indian Premier League 2023. The forthcoming three-game series offers a chance for these young athletes to establish a good impact on their future careers. It also provides an opening for those players seeking to return to the senior team.
