Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has parted ways with legendary West Indies cricketer Brian Lara as head coach. Brian Lara joined the SRH franchise as their batting coach and strategic advisor ahead of the 2022 season and replaced Tom Moody as their head coach ahead of IPL 2023.
Over the past two seasons, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team faced some challenges, ending up in the eighth spot in 2022 with six wins out of 14 matches. In 2023, under Brian Lara’s coaching, their performance didn’t improve, and they finished at the bottom of the points table with only four wins out of 14 matches.
SRH recently announced the departure of Brian Lara through their social media account. They thanked him for his two-year association and wrote, “As our 2 year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him 🧡 Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours 🙌.”
To fill the coaching role, the franchise has appointed the renowned New Zealand cricketer, Daniel Vettori. Vettori brings with him a wealth of coaching experience, having served as the head coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2014 to 2018 and currently working as the assistant coach for the Australian Cricket Team since May 2022.
SRH’s performance has been a cause for concern since IPL 2021, where they finished in the last spot on the points table for the first time since their debut in 2013. Fans expressed discontent with how their captain, David Warner, was benched after the initial eight games.
It’s worth mentioning that Warner had previously led SRH to their first IPL title in 2016. Looking ahead, with Aiden Markram and Daniel Vettori leading the team, SRH aims for a turnaround in the upcoming season and aspires to be a top contender for the coveted trophy.
